Wasn't there an allegation of paedophilia against a large number of the inhabitants of this town? Big Black had a song about it at least. (AFAIR, the allegations were false) -- Jim Regan 21:26 4 Jul 2003 (UTC)
Brentwood?
[edit]Brentwood isn't a separate town, and the "south of the tracks"/"south of 169" bit makes no sense, since most of downtown is southeast of both of those things anyway. I've removed this from the "Local culture" section, which is still a mess. android79 22:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Dahm triplets
[edit]Also, looking back through the recent edit history, it looks like there was a revert war over the inclusion of the Dahm triplets as famous Jordan natives. For the record, they are from Jordan, but whether or not this really belongs I can't say, and I don't have a reference anyway. android79 22:11, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Sex abuse scandal
[edit]Like it or not, this is a notable part of Jordan's history. It should remain.
Yes, it's a bit jarring to have a big section on something this sordid without much else to recommend the town, but I think the solution to that is to add more info (history, etc.) to the article, and to make sure the section makes the truth about the "scandal" crystal clear. android79 02:58, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Big Black video
[edit]I removed the link to the YouTube video for Big Black's song. Unless someone wants to add a blurb about the song, its inspiration, etc., I don't think a bare link to the video is appropriate. android79 03:04, 17 July 2007 (UTC)
Our dear south metro fringe
[edit]I have placed Jordan under my South of the River improvement list. I have a question though: Jordan is technically within the reach of the metropolitan area and many (well in the south metro) consider Jordan a fringe metro suburb, much like how Faribault might be a "suburb." How do the denizens of Jordan feel about being characterized as such? .:DavuMaya:. 05:53, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- I'm not a current resident, but I've always considered Jordan an outer suburb. Faribault, on the other hand... that makes no sense. android79 21:47, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
- Rice County, Minnesota and Scott County, Minnesota are both considered part of the metro area, however I'm sure that businesses in Faribault, Minnesota employ a much higher percentage of that city's residents than Jordan's employers do. So, Jordan is more of a bedroom community.--Appraiser 21:59, 5 November 2007 (UTC)
Mayoral assault allegations

Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge - Swamp Boulder
[edit]Given the inclusion of Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge here, I'd like to include a section about the Louisville Swamp Boulder. This is a serious destination for rock climbers located in the cities since it is the closest outdoor craig. Wildlife Refuge volunteers and staff are very friendly to climbers as well and that area serves as an attraction for visitors.
I'm working to develop Wikipedia pages for Minnesota's cities for two reasons. 1) Minnesota has some great climbing that doesn't get much visibility outside of the North Shore, and 2) there exists a small divide between climbers and small MN cities. It is important that both stakeholders understand and respect each other. Sandstone/Robinson park does a great job of promoting local business to climbers to give back to the city that supports their climbing destination. Zentavious (talk) 15:12, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
- The wildlife refuge is over two miles from Jordan's municipal boundary, in another township, and should be removed from the article. This article is about Jordan, not places near Jordan. You may wish to add your climbing information to another, more appropriate article. Please note that Wikipedia is not a place for WP:PROMOTION. --Magnolia677 (talk) 15:34, 6 February 2024 (UTC)
- Thank you for the reply. I do appreciate the WP:PROMOTION reference. Concerning the municipal boundary, the address is 16210 Jordan Ave, Jordan, MN 55352. How is this different from the municipal boundary, and who gets to decide which is appropriate for this page? I while back I found a template for US Cities articles and I'm wondering if there is any precedent that we can reference. Briefly, I'll mention that the same is true for Finland, Minnesota. I'm sure where the best place to centralize this discussion across articles is. Maybe the Minnesota Wikiproject page... Zentavious (talk) 16:41, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Zentavious: ZIP code boundaries are established based on what is most efficient for mail delivery, with little concern for municipal boundaries. Thus, cities listed on a mailing address are often well outside the city's borders. For example, this lodge has an Ely, Minnesota, mailing address, but is located in a wooded area 13.5 miles outside the city. School boards frequently do the same thing, and include communities well outside the school board city. A detailed explanation can be found here. Adding a specific site to a city article--when the site is located well outside the city--would not be appropriate, and the site should be added to a more appropriate Wikipedia article (for example, the article about the county in which the site is geographically located). - I see your point. Thank you for the detailed explanation. Zentavious (talk) 19:52, 28 March 2024 (UTC)
