[edit]I have been to Acteal, and a man there told me that the massacre also stemmed from some land dispute. Can anyone confirm this? I will see what I can dig up.
Somebody just vandalized an information page about a massacre. Sick. Hastalavictoria 00:33, 4 September 2005 (UTC)
I just visited Acteal as well.
[edit]I believe you are thinking of the dispute over which the group Las Abejas originally formed, when their village was torn apart over a land dispute that pitted a male resident against a female resident. Fighting ensued, lives were lost, and some of the villagers became pacifists. Some of the people involved in one side of the dispute were arrested by officials who were on the other side and held without due process. The pacifist community members marched for their release, and when the press asked them to identify themselves, they came up with the name "Las Abejas." The massacre at Acteal actually occurred several years later and was not related to the original land dispute.
