Lee Hyori: Originally a man?

[edit]

A few years ago, I remember searching up "Hyori" and getting biographies that stated that she was originally a man before. Right now, it seems that it's now covered up. I can't figure out if that was just a rumor that was spread to ruin her reputation, or if that really happened. Could anyone please enlighten me on this? Cerealchan 02:26, 3 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nevermind, I had the wrong person.

Name of article

[edit]

Hyori has been known as "Hyori" for the longest time; I'm not sure why anyone would change it to "Hyo Ri". This is more or less a matter of commonality than what could be argued (although I doubt it) as correct. User:Stevay

Please sign your comments. I have done so for you. Anyway, I agree. She is overwhelmingly known as Hyori Lee in the English-speaking world, and as this is the English Wikipedia, the article should be there. —Lowellian (talk) 02:56, Mar 26, 2005 (UTC)
While I agree that her given name should not have a space nor a hyphen in it, I don't agree that her family name should be put last, as most people know her by "Lee Hyori", and not "Hyori Lee". Stevay 20:00, 27 Mar 2005 (UTC)
Agreed. "Lee Hyori" gets far more Google hits than "Hyori Lee". —Lowellian (talk) 07:43, Apr 13, 2005 (UTC)

I added some information about her Dark Angel CD, but you erased it???? User:ginaaax3

Hi ginaaax3, I reverted your edits as they didn't contain much relevant new information about Lee Hyori. For example, in an encyclopedia, it's not appropriate to discuss how certain song has a swear word in it and how the singer hesitates to sing the song because of that. That sort of information is more appropriate for a fansite, not an encyclopedia. Also in your edits, you erased information about other Lee Hyori upcoming events, such as hosting an upcoming television show and released a new album with her group. This information was already deemed useful by myself and other editors, so I reverted it back.
I did look back on my recent edit, and I have readded the part you added about Hyori's album being released recently. If you have any other news about Hyori, please feel free to contribute, now that you have a better sense of what is appropriate and what is not. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me on my talk page.

This should be at Lee Hyori. That's the most common, and it gets the most hits. --LakeHMM 07:01, 13 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. Hyolee2 should stop moving this page. Stevay 02:16, 16 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, I'll concur, but I can only take unilateral action should 3RR violation occur, although there are other methods of dispute resolution. I'll keep watch in the mean time. Elle vécut heureuse à jamais (Be eudaimonic!) 20

Hey, I have a news article about Britney's "Do Something," plagiarized by the writer of "Get Ya." I don't know where to put it so I'll just put it here for now. Iloveayu 22:47, 23 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I cited the sources regarding that plagiarism stuff. Iloveayu 01:57, 25 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising and Marketing Accomplishments

[edit]

She appeared on Seventeen? Does this mean she appeared on Korean Seventeen? I didn't even know the Seventeen was sold in Korea. I thought Seventeen closed after only about a few years in Korea. mirageinred 22:29, 16 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Advertising question

[edit]

What the heck is a "Mystery Advert"? Can someone please clarify and add why this is important? Thanks. SKS2K6 23:19, 12 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Other languages

[edit]

Is there any indication that she speaks any languages other than Korean? Bogomir Kovacs (talk) 12:50, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

She has spoken multiple languages on tv shows. Broken english for sure is the most common one. Seems to understand more than she can speak though. Kav2001c (talk) 08:55, 6 December 2020 (UTC)kav2001c[reply]

Personal Life

[edit]

I assume she has one, and I came here hoping to learn something about it. Can anyone add a section about her personal life? 138.162.128.53 (talk) 17:56, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hyori has kept her personal life very private. While there have been many rumours about her dating so-and-so, these were never confirmed. Because this is a biography on a living person, the material on the page has to be factual and correct, and since there are no sources regarding her personal life (well, none that people could find so far), that's why the section doesn't exist. Hope that helps. SKS (talk) 20:03, 30 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism "H-Logic"/ sources disappeared

[edit]

I think it would be best if one would mention it here, the talk-/discussionpage, that a label of not citing references and/ or sources is being added. I didn't know anything about it, and the only thing I could do, was wonder what it was about. I have worked on the first part of the "H-Logic" section, for which I added sources. What happend to them? I will revert that at once. The plagiarism section is new, and I will try to find some sources for that as well. However, I think that there must be a few rules:
1. Adding a lable (of any kind) must be mentioned here; that's not only polite, it also let's others know what they can do to improve the article
2. I think one should never remove sources from an article, unless those sources are worthless. The risk is that an article is without ANY sources, and that creates the will of adding labels and/ or removing the article/ section(s)
3. The plagiarism seems very real, I saw the videos on YouTube. However, one MUST SUPPLY SOURCES!!! Just changing the text, saying that one should 'check it out on youtube' is rubbish, and worth nothing!
I'll see what I can do to restore it. --Robster1983 (talk) 10:51, 28 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Obviously, there is some plagiarism involved. I searched for sources myself, but if others have some more; please, do let us know! --Robster1983 (talk) 18:41, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Before I get sued: no one has been found guilty, unless a court has condemned them to be so! :) --Robster1983 (talk) 18:43, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The effort to improve the article is appreciated.  :) However, a few things:
  1. It's a biography of a living person; as such, reliable sources are absolutely required, especially for material that's controversial like this. K-pop blogs like omgkpop and allkpop are not reliable sources. That's why I removed them
  2. Forum posts are essentially gossip/speculation and again, do not meet the WP:RS standard.
  3. Finally, a lot of quotes are uncited. Do you have a source?
I know it's difficult to find English sources for Korean pop culture news, but regardless, the strict rules for BLPs apply. I hope that makes sense. SKS (talk) 22:08, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Of course it makes sense! :) I've tried to do my best, but like you said: it's hard to find reliable sources. Some two weeks ago there were no sources at all, so this is an improvement anyhow.
The quotes that are there are being guided with sources, however, the sources might be added on another/ better way. I have also added a tweet from Cookie Couture on this matter. --Robster1983 (talk) 16:40, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I have added a 'reference' in the beginning of the H.logic part. The reference is the first and most complete forum thread on this matter. About 90% of the infomation in the thread has its sources linked and the first post it a summary of the whole thread. Intouchwithbertj (talk) 01:06, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
We're going to need a WP:RS reliable source; a web forum does not meet this criteria. TJRC (talk) 01:16, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The following article is published on OMGKPOP and copied to several other websites it was released the day before Hyori acknowledged the plagiarism. http://www.omgkpop.com/2010/06/19/artists-speak-out-about-lee-hyori-plagiarism-case/ Intouchwithbertj (talk) 09:00, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This blog does not appear to meet the requirements of WP:RS. "...self-published media—whether books, newsletters, personal websites, open wikis, blogs, personal pages on social networking sites, Internet forum postings, or tweets—are largely not acceptable." This blog does not meet any of the exceptions in the immediately following paragraph, either. See WP:SPS for a little more detail. Was this never reported in any reliable media? If it was, let's cite to that. If not, it's rumor, and should be deleted. TJRC (talk) 16:30, 27 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I did not add the sources yet, I want to discuss it here first. I have found the Twitter-account of Cookie Couture, and they are refering to the zachtaylor-site. See: http://twitter.com/Cookie_Couture/status/12555982104 (source that their lawyers are on it) and http://twitter.com/Cookie_Couture (starting 20th of April, not hard t find). How could this be included in the article? And I reckon that this makes the zachtaylor site also a reliable source, since Cookie Couture referes to it? :s --Robster1983 (talk) 16:47, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Removal of plagiarism section

[edit]

This has gone on too long. This is a BLP article containing serious accusations with nothing to back them up except blogs and online forums; essentially, gossip. I am taking a cue from WP:BLP:

Unsourced or poorly sourced contentious material about living persons — whether the material is negative, positive, or just questionable — should be removed immediately and without waiting for discussion, from Wikipedia articles, talk pages, user pages, and project space.

I am therefor removing it. Do not add any of this material back unless you do so with reliable and verifiable sources. Given that this article is about a Korean artist, if sources exist, they are likely to be in the Korean language. If you add back in material supported only by such a non-English source, please provide a translated quote of the statement that provides the support. TJRC (talk) 17:41, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately I don't have time to actually edit the article (blame it on real life...haha), but here are some links that should help: Manila Bulletin, The Hankyoreh, The Chosun Ilbo, The JoongAng Ilbo, and The Korea Times. These are all English sources; however, they do not deal with her earlier issues. SKS (talk) 20:00, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For her 2006 scandal, there's a small mention in an article in the Donga Ilbo and an editorial by the JoongAng Ilbo. Because Britney was involved, there's a bit more coverage in English media, including the Irish Examiner, USA Today, and the New York Times. SKS (talk) 20:16, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Very good start. A virtual gold star for you for your work on this (including your article edit). I'm going to be a bit busy myself in the next coupld days, but will also try to work some of this in. Thanks very much. TJRC (talk) 20:29, 28 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]
For a listing of several English articles/sources on the H.logic plagiarism, visit the Bahnus talks page. Intouchwithbertj (talk) 09:44, 2 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
There is a mistake concerning the lines about the plagiarism, accusations were made the same day as the release, I myself made the first accusation. I knew Second Persons original and posted the issue here on '13 April 2010'. I will correct the wiki.Intouchwithbertj (talk) 12:25, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Move from MnetMedia to B2M Entertainment?

[edit]

Im sure she moved to a new label, but why isnt this covered in the article? Intouchwithbertj (talk) 13:41, 20 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
