2004 - Taiwan Presidential Election

I noticed that during the revision '02:11, 23 Nov 2004' for the 2004 page, where your comment text was "a few more removals...i thought britney spear's 'wedding' has been removed already...," you added quotes around the word 'shot' in the entry regarding the Taiwan Presidental Election. (I am new to the wiki, so my sincere apologies if I misattributed the change.) This it seems like the quotes by them selves serve only to confuse those not familiar with the topic. Perhaps a more appropriate entry would be

• March 20 - President Chen Shui-bian wins the Taiwanese presidential election by 0.2% of the vote. The day before, he and Vice President Annette Lu were shot. Lien Chan refuses to concede and demands a recount. A controversial 'peace referendum' opposed by the People's Republic of China is invalidated.

In response to your response on my page:

This is an encyclopedia, wordings such as whitest, blackest to describe people are just not polite in the view of the general public, and i believe that's why over the years media have changed their wording to 'African-American, Latin-American, Chinese-American', etc. If you were to call a city 'blackest', what does that imply? Of course the definition of racism may be very different from person to person, but in my opinion comparing 'white-ness' of a city is not very appropriate, especially in an encyclopedia of Wiki's nature. I disagree with your contention that "whitest" and "blackest" are not polite in the view of the general public. The proliferation of hyphenated-American terms is the result of political correctness. And I am saying this as a Jewish Korean American! To call a city "blackest" means "most black" means "highest percentage of black people" means "highest percentage of people of African descent"; it's as simple as that. category: InuYasha items

The purpose of it is sort of to link the objects to Category:Fictional objects as well as to Category:InuYasha. Basically it was an efficiency thing (I am a programmer, I tend to think of things in efficiency sense). Tessaiga

I agree that Tessaiga is a better term to use than Tetsusaiga, but before you start changing instances that you see on other pages, might I suggest that you look at Talk:Tetsusaiga and this argument on the Manual of Style talk page. We already had a discussion about this, and it was decided that we should use Tetsusaiga because it is more common. Not that we couldn't reopen the discussion, I just wanted to make sure that you knew some background. Josh 07:50, Feb 18, 2005 (UTC)

As I said, I agree completely that we should use Tessaiga because it is the correct romanization. If you want to actually change anything, though, you should try to convince the people who supported Tetsusaiga before. Otherwise, I suspect that they will revert such changes. You are definitely right that the Manual of Style discussion never exactly concluded. I suggested then that we should make a clearer policy about this, but that was never done. Well I tried several text sizes & screen widths & the photo was always between the text table & the table of contents - filling in that empty gap there. I use IE6, what browser are you using? I respect your right to vote, and I am not saying you cannot vote in this way. But I am afraid you might have misunderstood the purpose of the polls. They are for enforcement of the current set of naming conventions. There's an option to support or oppose because each entry is different, and we have to decide on which entries fit the naming conventions by a poll. Monty Hall problem

Hi - I just thought I'd drop by and let you know this change is mathematically incorrect. If the original pick is still 1/100 (which it is), then the other 98 doors each have an even chance of the remaining 99/100, i.e. each of the 98 doors has a 1/98 * 99/100 = 99/9800 chance. If the host opens more of the 99 unchosen doors, with N remaining they each have a 1/N * 99/100 chance (so if the host opens 98 of them, the one remaining has a 99/100 chance of being the one with the car). The difference between 1/99 and 99/9800 is not that large, but the whole point is that the original division between the player's door (1/100) and the rest (99/100) remains constant no matter how many doors the host opens. This is exactly the same as the 3 door version, where the player's initial pick remains 1/3 with the other doors (2 at first, then 1 after the host opens 1) sharing the other 2/3. Heh... so I guess you're right about the article length! As I'm sure you know, a reviewer asked for it to be lengthened and it was, so his Oppose is now a Support.

About the alias of '周董', it's a bit of a story. So it was Himurakenshin who initially put 周董 in the infobox, which was great, then later Sky Divine wrote "Also known as Jay, 周董 (rarely)", which I thought was unencyclopedic and weird. The fact is, '周董' is used pretty often (as I'm sure you're aware of), but I figured, if someone thought 周董 was rare, I'm safer just leaving it out. That is why I removed it. I'll go put 周董 back now.

Translating from Chinese for Super Girl (contest)

Hi LegolasGreenleaf! I found you through the list of available translators from Chinese into English and noticed that you've helped with bringing the Jay Chou article to FA status, so I figured you're the person for me to go to. I'm wondering if you'd be able to help me with expanding the Super Girl (contest) article that I've been working on for WP:CPOP. The Chinese Wikipedia has a lot of content on this article and its sub-articles for each contest season. Unfortunately, my Chinese is very limited and I can only read bits and pieces of the article. I'd appreciate your help in helping translate portions of the articles which are worth mentioning in the English version.

The Legend of Sword and Fairy

Hello, I see you are a fan of 仙剑奇侠传. This is great. Because I am a huge fan of the game (NOT the TV series) myself and have always wanted to figure out what the "Capital City" is in the game. I can see that you have put Chang'an (Xi'an) as the capital city in the Plot section of the article. But I have always thought the capital in the game is Nanjing. According to the route of their journey (urban settlements are bolded):

1. A village near Suzhou
2. Travels along a river
3. Suzhou
4. Wilderness, mountains, caves, snakes, giant snakes...
5. A village between Suzhou and Yangzhou
6. Wilderness, temple, a massive tomb, zombies, mountains, caves
7. Yangzhou
8. More wilderness, mountains, caves, frogs, scorpians...
9. Outskirts of the Capital
10. Capital City
11. Shu mountain in Sichuan
12. The giant pagoda prison
13. Dali, Yunnan

So basically, if they were to travel from Yangzhou to Sichuan, they can pretty much just stick to the Yangtze River and it will take them directly there. That's why I always think that the capital is Nanjing, but then it also mean they made a huge leap in their progress by "flying" with the drunken guy all the way from Nanjing to Sichuan. Although Chang'an or Xi'an is one of the most famous ancient capitals of China, it would mean that they will go on a big detour if they were to go from Yangzhou to Chang'an, then to Sichuan and ended in Yunnan. Article upgrade assistance request (Pre-translation stage)

This is in reference to a relatively new umbrella article on en-wikipedia named Ceremonial pole. Ceremonial pole is a human tradition since ancient times; either existed in past at some point of time, or still exists in some cultures across global continents from north to south & from east to west. Ceremonial poles are used to symbolize a variety of concepts in several different world cultures.

Through article Ceremonial pole we intend to take encyclopedic note of cultural aspects and festive celebrations around Ceremonial pole as an umbrella article and want to have historical, mythological, anthropological aspects, reverence or worships wherever concerned as a small part.

While Ceremonial poles have a long past and strong presence but usually less discussed subject. Even before we seek translation of this article in global languages, we need to have more encyclopedic information/input about Ceremonial poles from all global cultures and languages. And we seek your assistance in the same.

Since other contributors to the article are insisting for reliable sources and Standard native english; If your contributions get deleted (for some reason like linguistics or may be your information is reliable but unfortunately dosent match expectations of other editors) , please do list the same on Talk:Ceremonial pole page so that other wikipedians may help improve by interlanguage collaborations, and/or some other language wikipedias may be interested in giving more importance to reliablity of information over other factors on their respective wikipedia.

Asian 10,000 Challenge invite

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Asia/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge and Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like South East Asia, Japan/China or India etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. At some stage we hope to run some contests to benefit Asian content, a destubathon perhaps, aimed at reducing the stub count would be a good place to start, based on the current Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon which has produced near 200 articles in just three days. New 10,000 Challenge for Canada

Hi, Wikipedia:WikiProject Canada/The 10,000 Challenge is up and running based on Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge for the UK which has currently produced over 2300 article improvements and creations. If you'd like to see large scale quality improvements happening for Canada like The Africa Destubathon, which has produced over 1600 articles in 5 weeks, sign up on the page. The idea will be an ongoing national editathon/challenge for Canada but fuelled by a contest such as The North America Destubathon to really get articles on every province and subject mass improved. I would like some support from Canadian wikipedians here to get the Challenge off to a start with some articles to make doing a Destubathon worthwhile! Translation help

The "Mazu Cultural Palace" in Songjiang's Fangta Park, where you can get free soy milk and youtiao if you show up at the right times.

Since you were kind/foolish enough to have your name on this list, here's a note that I could use some help with the mess of Mazu temples in Shanghai. There were three; the first two were destroyed; the third got moved to Songjiang and rebuilt; and then as of 2014 Zhabei was considering rebuilding their old one. So:

• The Shanghai Archives has an article on the history of the Zhabei/Songjiang temple whose citation I've already formatted for you but whose facts need to be translated and added to the Songjiang Tianfei Palace article and tagged with {{sfnp|Feng|2008}}.
• The article is wrong on the date of the move to Songjiang but might be right that it was built in 1883 rather than originally demolished then as claimed here. It'd be nice if you had time to see if there was another official source. The temple's own official site doesn't mention it.
• The archive article and this article and (obliquely) this "About Us" page suggest that Zhabei District is rebuilding or has already rebuilt a fourth Mazu temple near the site of their former one. It would be nice if you had time to poke around and see if you can find anything official on the subject that I could use to create an article on it.
• Ditto any information about the other two original Mazu temples in Shanghai.

If you have time and interest for any, some, or all of that, great and please leave a note here saying so. I'm asking all the listed Chinese translators for help, so we wouldn't want anyone needlessly duplicating work. — LlywelynII 02:42, 22 November 2016 (UTC)
