Ahem — are you sure that these images are public domain? Did you read http://www.sil.si.edu/permissions/, where it says

The digital image files and associated text on this web site are the property of the Smithsonian Institution or of other institutions or individuals.

And have you seen http://www.si.edu/copyright/, where they state:

MAY I PUT IMAGES, TEXT OR CONTENT FROM THIS WEBSITE ON ANOTHER GENERAL ACCESS WEBSITE OR CD-ROM?
No, unless permission has been obtained in advance from the Smithsonian Institution.

All this doesn't look at all like public domain to me... even if most of the images are pre-1923. Before I'd dare use any of these images, I'd want a lawyer's opinion! Lupo 14:07, 11 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
