[edit]I've had a go at starting this article- I don't know a huge amount about Moore, but I hope I've left the seed for an article to take root. I was surprised there wasn't an article on Moore already... Vanky 12:39, 1 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Needs to be longer
[edit]Social Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy is one of the most important 20th century works in political science. Moore attempted an extremely ambitious, basically "how did we get here" study that was a landmark work. Sadly, I don't know much about it (I read it back in the day, when I didn't know much history or anything else). I'm sure someone can put more detail into either Moore's article or especially in the non-existent article on Social Origins.
Hear, hear.
Anthony Marx?
[edit]One of the last lines of the article says Anthony Marx was a student of Moore's at Harvard. It seems possible, but I'm not aware of Marx attending Harvard. Anyone have details/citations? (I've been working on Marx's page.) --Pjmorse 00:51, 26 November 2006 (UTC)
Personal Life
[edit]I have added some mention of his wife. We might want to expand the personal section a bit more. Mgolden 15:07, 28 May 2007 (UTC)
Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page
[edit]Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Harvard, culture wars then
[edit]Harvard, where Herbert Marcuse also was at the time, was the only (it is said) university in the USA to resist the anticommunist "witchhunts" of the 1950s.--Ralfdetlef (talk) 04:59, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
