Move To
[edit]This really should be moved to Data Ganj Bukhsh (or Baksh) or Shaikh Ali Hajveri, which is how he is usually referred to.—iFaqeer (Talk to me!) 01:01, Jan 5, 2005 (UTC)
I suggest this be moved to Syed Ali Hajveri as this is his real name and wikipedia is a secular encyclopaedia, and as such we should avoid honorific titles in the Article name (okay on the discussion page). Hassanfarooqi 19:50, 28 November 2006 (UTC)
I agree with above, this page and the related architecture should be labled and recognised in it's original form as intended by Ali Hajweri himself.Khokhar (talk) 04:47, 10 May 2009 (UTC)
No tajiki origin
[edit]He was persian , and not tajiki.this differs a lot.it is a matter that is stupidly discussed in topics like Mowlana too. Bbadree (talk) 19:35, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

Sufism - Concepts
[edit]It is mentioned in the article: He studied Sufism under Abu'l-Fadl Muhammad b. al-Hasan al-Khuttali.
Study is for uloom (pl. knowledge). Sufism is spiritual engagement with the Sheikh in order to attain spiritual elevation and following true Sunnah. There are no studies or curriculum. After taking bay'ah (oath/pledge of allegiance) one just needs to remain in Sheikh's suhbah (supervision) for as long as possible. In english language, it may be loosely termed as supervision, training, coaching, guidance etc., unless someone else has a better suggestion. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 118.107.138.229 (talk) 10:16, 29 September 2010 (UTC)

[edit]- Reproducing here a comment posted on my Talk page by Sani0346, and my response:
Hi brother, I was updating the article on Ali Hujwiri from past few days. Even I spent more than 14 hours last night on this article. Full name in English & Farsi in the info box is basic part of that info box . In the section Lineage & Respect of Sufis towards Ali Hujwiri text in Farsi is necessary for the exact pronunciation of the names and verses otherwise it changes the meaning of those words. If you do not agree to some part you can discuss it with me. Sani0346 (talk) 16:21, 23 December 2010 (UTC)
- You should post this on the Ali Hujwiri talk page, not here.
- I have never seen either the full name or the Urdu/Farsi/Punjabi names in the infobox in other articles. See, for example, Fariduddin Ganjshakar, Moinuddin Chishti or Nizamuddin Auliya. I am, therefore, removing them again. You should leave it to other editors to adjudicate the matter if you continue to disagree.
- I agree that having the verses in the Respect section is useful.
- It is not the practice in other WP articles to translate the entire lineage like you did here. And your argument is hard to accept. It really doesn't facilitate correct pronunciation, I think. Anyone who can read the Farsi names already knows how to pronounce them. Besides, most of them are very common names; very few people who don't know Farsi will have trouble pronouncing them.
- I will go head and copy both these comments to the Ali Hujwiri talk page. --Sarabseth (talk) 10:34, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- Check this Muhammad Iqbal and you'll find the full name in Farsi and English text in the info box . It also looks reasonable. It does not matter whether it is written in other articles or not . But full name is a basic part of the info box . Sani0346 (talk) 11:41, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
- But full name is a basic part of the info box
- According to who or what? Producing one example like you did does not change the fact that this is not the standard convention in WP articles. And it is certainly redundant, since the full name with all the bells and whistles already appears in the opening sentence. In the infobox, the heading of "Ali Hujwiri" is more than enough. And to have both that heading and then "Abul Hassan Ali Ibn Usman al-Jullabi al-Hajvery al-Ghaznawi ابوالحسن علی بن عثمان الجلابی الهجویری الغزنوی" is certainly overkill. --Sarabseth (talk) 11:29, 25 December 2010 (UTC)
Question about newly added material
[edit]Are these direct quotes from the referenced book? "...the slow transformation of sufism from simple ascetism and adoration of God to highly developed theosophical cult considerably influenced by pantheistic ideas. He is the link between Mysticism as it developed in Persia and Khurasan and the form it took in the Indo-Pakistan subcontinent."
If so, they need to either be paraphrased or put in quotation marks. --Sarabseth (talk) 12:29, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
Nasta'liq font
[edit]Can someone tell me which Nastaliq font has been used for this article and from where it can be obtained?Jemiljan (talk) 23:11, 11 December 2011 (UTC)
date of death
[edit]the article gives a date of death as 1077 CE in the introduction, which is 470 AH; but at the end of the article it states most early writers agree it was 455AH. The date 1077 needs a source. Sen McGlinn (talk) 12:30, 2 August 2012 (UTC)
