This is clearly a collection of personal opinions, as it stands. --Doradus 03:20, 7 Sep 2004 (UTC)
- I don't think so, because it is largely considered the worst place to live in Salt Lake City, although maybe worst is too harsh.
- Worst is way too harsh. Although certainly not an affluent part of Salt Lake City, the houses are nice, but modest and the yards are generally well tended. There's little sign of urban blight there. Although there are problems in the neighborhood, its reputation as a crime-ridden, gang-infested, inferior neighborhood is largely the result of erroneous and, shall I say, racially bigoted attitudes of those living elsewhere in the whiter, less hispanic parts of the city (yes, another opinion). There are far worse places to live in Salt Lake City than Rose Park. -- Maylett 03:47, 28 July 2005 (UTC)
RP & PROUD
[edit]I agree completely that "worst" is WAY too harsh!!! I was raised in Rose Park, my family has resided in RP for over 45 years. I know many of our neighbors have been here since their homes were originally built, some over 50 years ago. As we were looking for a home, my wife and I have moved back "home". We have a lovely home, with a gorgeous yard. The larger majority of our neighbors tend their yards with amazing care. As with any neighborhood, there are homes that are run down & yards that may be neglected, but I would put the property management in RP up against any area in SLC. I suppose at this time I could list other neighborhoods that I feel are beneath the general standard of RP, but why??? As for the crime in our area... Crime is everywhere. But I live there, I work there and I know my neighbors. I know the reality. And crime is not realisticaly represented, rather the stigma. Ignorant statements abound in the original posting of OPINIONS on this site. Note here: We are talking about Rose Park. Not surrounding communities which are often lumped in with RP. I do not understand the "agenda" to give RP a black eye. It runs from ignorant webmasters, to the community signs "Rose Park" that a trailor park would not use, that were placed by the city. Meanwhile other areas in SLC have wonderful signs denoting their communities. RP... we get plastic encased garbage. Simply because you see an ethnic group that you fear, does not mean they are "scary" people. YOU are a "scared" person. Your bigotry is exposed by your ignorance. YES, there are FAR WORSE places to live in SLC. We do not ask that we have equal time in slandering other communities, only that the slander against Rose Park ease up. You do not live here, you do not know what a warm, wonderful neighborhood we live in.~~ RP&Proud 07/10/06
- WTF? Who are you directing that at? Nobody here actually called it a bad place or the worst place to live. Calm down, man. bob rulz 02:00, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
I quote from the original text under : "POPULATION SHIFTS & REDISTRICTING: In the 1980s Rose Park became home to increasing numbers of non-European immigrants due to modest house prices. These immigrants came chiefly from Polynesia and Latin America. Poverty in the area led to increased crime, including gang violence. Although crime has since subsided, Rose Park still has a reputation of being among the worst places to live in Salt Lake County. Also "the worst place to live" is the vein of the original text of this thread. These comments in general have been addressing that as a topic. I am perfectly calm, and simply stating the fact that RP is unfairly portrayed & generally misunderstood. Perhaps I hit a nerve? Seems I may have.
- I know what you're saying. I grew up in Rose Park myself. I think it's a uniquely pretty place, and I vaguely plan on living there after returning from law school. Nothing feels as nice as sitting under the massive trees that hang over the residential streets of Rose Park. I also agree that the reputation Rose Park has is unearned—a recent Trib article recounts statistics that show the center city is a more dangerous place than any part of west Salt Lake City, but they report this precisely because of the reputation that Rose Park, Glendale, and other west nieghborhoods have. I think one could find a source confirming Rose Park's bad reputation, if desired. Cool Hand Luke 09:33, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
- I agree that its reputation is undeserved. However, this isn't a place to rant about how people feel about it. There's nothing in the text that is biased. If we could find a source for it, though, that would be great. I'd really love to see the demographics and crime levels of areas within Salt Lake City, I just haven't really taken the time to look. Also, nice to see you back around here, CHL. bob rulz 21:20, 5 September 2006 (UTC)
Rose Park?
[edit]Seems to me West Valley would be alot worse to me (I am not putting down West Valley) But I hardly turn on any local news to find a shooting in the Rose Park area but alot happening in the West Valley area. I've lived in Rose Park for 10 years and yes there has been problems but there is problems everywhere even up on the Richie Benches. So this is a false statement please disregard the webmasters note on Rosepark. They make it sound like Compton?'
- Agreed. West Valley and surrounding areas do seem to be the worst areas in the valley to live. However, there really aren't any bad areas in Salt Lake City, especially when compared to other metro areas. bob rulz 00:49, 26 October 2005 (UTC)
West Valley isn't so bad... besides it's a whole city, Rose Park is just one neighborhood; so of course there are more shootings in WVC. Personally, I've always felt that the central area (Midvale, South Salt Lake and Murray) is in greater need of renovation than the westside; West Jordan and West Valley are on the rise in many ways. Salt Lake City proper is fairly uniformally ethnically diverse, at least when compared to the rest of the county (for example, East High isn't a "white school"). However, Rose Park isn't a place many people I know of want to live.
There are many areas in SLC that "People I know of would want to live". We are all thankful for our choices.~~ RP&Proud 07/10/06
