Where exactly did he die? Atherton, or Menlo Park?
[edit]The page mentions "Atherton" twice, and "near Menlo Park" once - but all without citation. Atherton and Menlo Park are adjoining suburbs in the San Francisco Bay Area, so "Atherton" would be consistent with "near Menlo Park". I note, however, that the 1983 movie mentioned "Menlo Park" as a location of the ranch where he died.
Does anyone have a reference that notes the specific location of the ranch where he died? PatricKiwi (talk) 02:16, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- @PatricKiwi According to my book from the Melbourne Museum, he died in his stable on Menlo Park ranch where he had been staying since his return from Mexico two weeks before. Woodcock found him sick in the early morning and took him out to the paddock while Nielsen was running to get the vet from Tanforan, but when PL worsened he brought him back to the stable where he died in the arms of Woodcock before help arrived. - Thanks. Looking at the edit history, I see that the first mention of "Atherton" as the place of death was by an IP editor in April 2017; this IP address was later blocked for "disruptive editing". Given this, and the lack of any evidence (so far) for Atherton being his place of death, I changed this back to "Menlo Park". PatricKiwi (talk) 10:17, 3 January 2024 (UTC)
- @PatricKiwi I am not really familiar with enwp editing: does the 'country' in the infobox refer to the country where he died? Ip's have been changing this from NZ to Oz, recently, and in that case both would be incorrect. Ciell (talk) 14:13, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- @Ciell If you're going to list a single country, then the country where he did all of his racing (except for his final race) makes the most sense - i.e., Australia. Though you could also make a case for his country of birth - i.e., New Zealand. Personally, I would be OK with both "New Zealand" and "Australia" being listed here. (But "country" in the infobox definitely doesn't refer to the country where he died.) PatricKiwi (talk) 17:41, 9 January 2024 (UTC)
