[edit]Wondering how to edit this U.S. County Entry?
The WikiProject U.S. Counties standards might help.
Other Communities/Incorporated Communities
[edit]Should we change the title of the "Other Communities" to "Unicorporated Communities"? Also, I think we should only mention the ones in the infobox that appears on the Island County pages. --InformationContributor11 (talk) 16:41, 31 July 2012 (UTC)
Locations within Other Unincorporated Communities
[edit]There are many locations listed in the locations that do not have information available. Where do these locations come from? Without any data to back them up should they even be listed? I ask because I am in the middle of doing some work on another wiki in the populated places, looking for information on cities/towns etc... I won't list a town if there is no information about that location. I wonder if someone is adding locations that they knew existed but in reality these places were just called that by the locals. Seems very odd that there are a lot of "beaches" listed. Y8S - LN (talk) 21:26, 13 March 2019 (UTC)
- @Y8S - LN: It's likely that the listed areas were scraped from Google Maps or another database. For the U.S., there's also GNIS from the USGS, which has lists of populated places that are organized by county and have accurate coordinates; I would not recommend adding or removing entries without consulting a local expert. Unincorporated communities in Washington can range from large suburbs that just don't have a defined town center, or small farms that were once thriving towns. As for Island County, being that it is two islands, almost all settlements are on beaches. SounderBruce 05:02, 14 March 2019 (UTC)
