Symbols for quantities
[edit]I think that the preferred symbols for quantities would be a useful addition to this template, if someone has or can find a list of current recommendations. Perhaps for some quantities there might be a couple of different ones, used in different fields of activity or whatever. Gene Nygaard 15:33, 16 Mar 2005 (UTC)
-- I added in an initial column for preferred symbols (hope it should especially be useful for B vs. H confusion). The symbols I added are just those that I remember off the top of my head, and are at least representative of one common convention in U.S. physics. Not sure how universal the conventions are. I suspect that there may be more differences from discipline to discipline than there are across the global physics community. 65.87.167.22 13:37, 16 December 2005 (UTC)
Title bar
[edit]Here's an alternative way to do the title bar with edit link:
| |||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Symbol | Name of Quantity | Derived Units | Base Units | ||||
I | Current | ampere (SI base unit) | A | A | |||
q | Electric charge, Quantity of electricity | coulomb | C | A·s |
I think the p version is clunky-looking, but the code for this is even clunkier. Maybe someone can come up with a better way. — Omegatron 15:23, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
Here is an even neater version:
SI electromagnetism units | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Symbol | Name of Quantity | Derived Units | Base Units | |
I | Current | ampere (SI base unit) | A | A |
q | Electric charge, Quantity of electricity | coulomb | C | A·s |
But it doesn't work in IE. :-( — Omegatron 00:44, 17 January 2006 (UTC)
This is probably the best; based directly on the real edit links:
edit SI electromagnetism units | ||||
---|---|---|---|---|
Symbol | Name of Quantity | Derived Units | Base Units | |
I | Current | ampere (SI base unit) | A | A |
q | Electric charge, Quantity of electricity | coulomb | C | A·s |
The dimension of the dimensionless
[edit]Why not give the dimension of magnetic susceptability as "1" instead of "-"? Jimp 7Oct05
Inclusion of cgs units
[edit]Since there isn't a specific template page for cgs electromagnetism units (as best I can tell), it seems appropriate to include relevant ones in this table. I can see the argument for why not to, given this is specifically the SI units page, but I don't think it will be a source of confusion if noted. Namely, I'm going to add a link to EMUs for magnetic dipole moment, ie. 1 emu = 10-3 A⋅m2. - Procyonidae (talk) 22:32, 22 January 2022 (UTC)
