Drop Dead Gorgeous: a song?

[edit]

Isn't this also a song? -

Yup, it was by Republica. Pennywisepeter 12:16, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Drop Dead Gorgeous (song) was released in 1997 before this film. The phrase drop dead gorgeous has been around for years, and has been reused plenty more since. Drop Dead Gorgeous (disambiguation) lists a few examples. -- 109.79.177.91 (talk) 01:12, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Book reference

[edit]

I deleted the reference to the book Civic Beauties by author C.D. Payne... apart from not being able to find a reference for that anywhere, the book description (as written in Wiki) has absolutely no plot points in common to the film. Feel free to put it back if I'm incorrect, but please add a citation. Amnewsboy 13:04, 5 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Background

[edit]

While it is plausible that "Mount Rose" is a stand-in for the real cities of either Rosemount, Minneosta or Montrose, Minnesota, there is no evidence for this and as such the article should simply state the fact that Mount Rose is a fictional city (contrary to one revision, Mount Rose is not a city/town/village in Cook County--the Mount Rose in Cook County is a hill).

The writer Lona Williams comes from a town called Rosemount, Minnesota. -- 109.79.177.91 (talk) 01:12, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Production

[edit]

As in many articles difficult to verify production details and location information have been deleted as "trivia" but out of sight is out of mind so I add a not here in case someone might be able to find sources and put the details back into the article. -- 93.107.148.169 (talk) 00:26, 22 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

BuzzFeed just did an excellent in-depth piece on the occasion of the film's 15th anniversary. They talked to the director, producer, writer and some of the actors. Looks like it would be the source you're looking for. Daniel Case (talk) 03:02, 24 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
That's a fantastic source and I've really enjoyed reading it. I'll try and get around to using it to improve the article at some point. I guess I'm among the people who thought this film was underrated, satire can so easily hit or miss, but I had mentally filed this along with Election (1999 film) and thought both had been critically praised. -- 109.79.177.91 (talk) 01:12, 9 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Guffawing

[edit]

I've had to revert and explain this more than once already so I'm adding a note here to hopefully explain it more clearly. One of the reviews compared Drop Dead Gorgeous to the mockumentary film "Waiting for Guffman" but what the reviewer wrote was (sic) "Waiting for Guffawing". My intention was always to include exactly what the reviewer wrote, but to also wikilink to the mockumentary to make the reference clear. I cannot be sure if the film critic made a dumb mistake, or if autocorrect accidentally over-corrected the name Guffman to the word Guffawing or if they were trying to be funny by attempting to make some kind of weak pun by misspelling. Rather than guessing or correcting the spelling error I very deliberately included the error exactly as it was shown in the review.

TLDR: Please don't correct Guffawing to Guffman. -- 109.78.221.119 (talk) 17:31, 7 June 2020 (UTC)[reply]

People are making good faith corrections[1] apparently without checking the review, but I've restored "Waiting for Guffawing" as it was written in the actual review. -- 109.76.198.190 (talk) 07:24, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]
