Point Pleasant Native Speaks of Town
I'm a citizen of Point Pleasant. We're not all UFO spotting rednecks, though I don't deny that there is a superfluous flow of those citizens in our community. We're an odd town who rejects change (much contributing to our own suffering), but some people here make an effort to encourage improvement. There is a state park downtown, the Battle Monument State Park, which offers a French and Indian War cabin-museum, a beautiful monument to the soldiers and Native Americans who fought in the Battle of Point Pleasant, and a picturesque view of the meeting of the Ohio River with the Kanawha River. While George Washington was surveying his excess of 50 acres here (upon which he planned to retire before the War for Independence), legend has it he proclaimed the meeting of the rivers a "pleasant point", hence our name. Also downtown, adjacent to the state park, stands the River Museum, a pre-civil war building showcasing the history of the Ohio River Valley and housing a resource library. Travelling another few blocks in the Historic District, one may find the new Riverfront Park; it is our latest city addition, featuring an outdoor ampitheater with the Ohio River as the backdrop, benches for lazy summer reading, and sufficient boat docks for our last visitor, the Mississippi Queen. Crossing Main Street, there's a statue of our famous Mothman, and going up Main Street many beautiful Victorian Houses welcome our summer Regatta and County Fair parades every year. The town hosts Krodel Park, too, the site of the reproduction of Fort Randolph which was a French and Indian War fort. Historians relish the reenactments of the siege of the fort or the capturing of the Shawnee Native American Chief Cornstalk. Other historical points of interest in Point Pleasant and Mason County include the West Virginia State Farm Museum and the Mason County Fair, the largest county fair in the state. Point Pleasant offers many attractive activities and places for residents and outsiders alike.
^That's very interesting, I live in Northern Virginia and one of the places I keep meaning to go is definitely Point Pleasant, seems like such an awesome place with all the mysteries and natural beuty that surrounds the area, can't wait to actually go check it out in person. Oh yes, I have read up on the Mothman quite a bit, huge fan of cryptids and the paranormal and I'm excited to go where it all went down. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 4.248.253.143 (talk) 16:57, 15 April 2009 (UTC)
